“I did it,” Karmelo Anthony appears to say in newly surfaced police bodycam footage

After Karmelo Anthony was found guilty in the murder of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, more footage submitted as evidence in the trial has been released.

Police bodycam footage shared late last week and obtained by Fox 4 News shows Anthony being apprehended by police after the ᴅᴇᴀᴅly altercation at a 2025 Texas track meet.

According to the footage, it appears that Anthony, now 19, tells police, “I did it.”

When officer Eduardo Cortez was placing Anthony in handcuffs and told another officer that he had the “alleged suspect,” the teenager can be heard saying, “I’m not alleged. I did it.”

At another point in the bodycam footage, Anthony can be heard telling officer Cortez, “He put his hands on me. I told him not to; he put his hand on me!”

Police can also be seen telling Anthony that they see a little bit of blood on his hand.

On June 9, Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison for fatally stabbing Metcalf at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025 following a brief confrontation.

Last year, during the meet at Kuykendall Stadium, Metcalf pushed Anthony, who then pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the chest. Metcalf’s heart was reportedly pierced in the attack.

The case drew national attention due to the races of the two individuals involved. Anthony is Black, and Metcalf was white.

However, according to the ᴀssociated Press, lawyers on both sides said that race did not play a part in the incident. The jury rejected Anthony’s claims of self-defense.

A representative for Collin County Jail, where Anthony was sent after he was found guilty of murder, told TMZ that he was placed in isolation in a more secure area of the jail. According to court documents obtained by the outlet, Anthony has already filed a notice to appeal the conviction.
